The Divorcee

Im currently working through a Divorce and the feeling of failure is not to be under estimated. The stigma. When you tell people, they literally stop talking. They apologise. It's a funny thing Divorce. It isnt something I ever wanted on my resume. But, I wanted my life back more than the dread of a Divorce. And even then, it's been a really turbulent and emotional year despite it being me who has driven it and made it happen. 

This piece is for the Woman who said enough is enough. Divorce is a very dirty word, especially with older generations. The ones who stuck it out. Persevered. Putting up with shit you should have to. From Domestic Violence to emotional / psychological abuse. To pure neglect. To being a mother, a father , the man in the relationship because he is too pathetic to be a man. 

No - to me - you should be proud of that. The number of incredible women I know who have not at all wanted the situation to end I Divorce and held on and held on - doing everything, trying to  desperately get their husband to wake up and smell the coffee, the effort, the pain, the heartache, especially when there are little onslaught involved. Especially when he has all the power. 

This one is for you. The woman who rose above all of the obstacles, who sat and cried on the floor with the terror and desperation and overwhelm, night after night but who kept going and stuck to her guns regardless. You inspire me. Divorce isnt always unamicable, but more often than not it is. This piece is inspired by one of the kindest, sweetest women I have had the pleasure of falling in love with, KT. Married to an alcoholic who loves his coke, a dreamer, a selfish, self centred man. She never bit, she absorbed and absorbed and absorbed. From him, his mother, his family, her family. Their stipulations of what and how she should be as a wife and a mother. She takes my breath away for how strong she is and how far away she feels from herself. Girl. Your girls are lucky to have you. You are a QUEEN. and your arse is absolutely ICONIC. 

You ARE on the RISE. You are going to FLY. To SOAR. 

To fight for your freedom, for the future importance of your girls freedom is to make history in ways great Conquorers have done and have been celebrated for. So for me - The Divorcee, whomever and why ever you are that, You are a celebration of Success to me and I salute you - because it is NOT fun. It is NOT easy.
