The Boss

She's too bossy........

She's too Corporate......

She's too demanding......

Being a female boss is not an easy job. No matter the level. The labels that automatically go with being a "Boss" are not generally that sexy, complimentary or positive. But yet, female leaders make the world turn. She is fierce. She is tenacious. She is ambitious. She is paving her own way. She is an expert in her field. She is a leader. She drives the change this world needs. The change that business needs. The change that that team needs. The change that isolated individual needs. 

This piece is inspired by a standout boss in my life. Nicola. I remember being interviewed by her and I fell in love. She was cool. Smart as fuck. Interesting. I remember having been raised in environments where "maternity leave" was a nightmare, it was a headache and the ideal scenario is to not empty women of childbearing age because she will get pregnant and it is inconvenient. I made a passing, thoughtless comment about a maternity leave situation and she said in such a kind, but serious way "Sarah, it's life". It never left me. It made me stop and think. She didn't lecture. She didn't reprimand. She naturally coached - gently, lovingly. And it changed me for the better. This incredible woman I have learnt over the years has so much depth and pain. I think about her more that she will know. I have a deep love for her because of how she helped me to grow. I made mistakes, I got things wrong. Her humanness humbled me deeply and continues to. She - is - Amazing. and I love her very much.
